Hotaru
It was during a trip to the Pacific that we found this craftsman who makes a living from the magnificent colored glass beads that he makes in his workshop and that he sells as souvenirs to tourists. An art that has been passed down from generation to generation and which has become one of the symbols of Okinawa. Called Hotaru which means firefly, these pearls glow in the night like the famous bioluminescent insects. Each pearl is handmade from colored glass paste on which the craftsman deposits a silver or gold leaf, a precise gesture that must be done at just the right temperature and which gives the pearl these beautiful shimmering reflections.
